CONSTITUION OF TURKISH STUDENT ASSOCIATION

PREAMBLE

Turkish Student Association (TSA) is a cultural organization, which is established to promote Turkish culture and help Turkish students to communicate and achieve a better understanding of American lifestyle. PURPOSE • Improve the relationship between Turkish students and all other groups on campus • To express Turkish people and their social life • Hosting all new Turkish students in the future and help them adapt faster and better • To encourage more students from Turkey to apply to Binghamton University • Inviting all other cultures to join our society • To organize social activities that will bring Turkish and non-Turkish students together. • To form study groups that will improve the academic performance of Turkish students • To help Turkish students avoid any cultural and legal conflicts they may face during their adaptation period


ARTICLE 1: NAME OF THE ORGANIZATION

TURKISH STUDENT ASSOCIATION


ARTICLE 2: MEMBERSHIP

There is no membership limit for TSA. Any BU student, faculty or staff from any ethnicity, race, gender, nation and religion may join TSA as a member. All members have to attend 50% of all meetings upon signing up membership, any member who fails to do so without an excuse approved by the board may be voted out of the board until the next semester. Any person whose actions may disturb the society may be voted out. In every voting the ruling decision will be decided by the choice of a majority (51%) of the members.


ARTICLE 3: EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

President (must be a graduate student) Vice President Secretary Treasurer (must be a graduate student)


OFFICERS:

A.ELECTIONS: The elections shall be held at the beginning of every fall semester. A re-election may be held if called for by a 30% of the member population.

B.ELIGIBILITY: Any member can run for the office.

C. DUTIES: Duties of officers are listed below.

1- PRESIDENT: The president shall be responsible for all official and social TSA correspondence. President must be graduate student.

2- VICE PRESIDENT: The VP assumes the duties of president during his absence.

3- SECRETARY: The secretary shall be responsible for keeping official documents and writings.

4- TREASURER: The treasurer shall keep a permanent record of the funds allocated to TSA. Treasurer must be a graduate student.


ARTICLE 4: MEETINGS

There will be regular biweekly meetings on every other Friday. Additional meetings may be scheduled if necessary, by adequate number of board members.


ARTICLE 5: AMENDMENT

When an amendment of the constitution is felt necessary by the majority of the members, any change can be made in the constitution after an election with the condition of the Student Association approval.


ARTICLE 6: RATIFICATION

TSA is not based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, and nation. The 3/4 of the members must approve the constitution of TSA at all times. If for any reason, majority of the members think that there is a need to change the constitution of TSA can call a special meeting and try to get an approval for necessary changes.


ARTICLE 7: STANDING COMMITTEES

Whenever there is a need for a standing committee to deal with certain recurring issues, TSA executive committee can call elections for such a committee or can assign the committee by the majority(51%) votes of the members.


ARTICLE 8: GRAVIENCE

If for any reason, any member of TSA has problems with the organization, that member can call a meeting and discuss the problem with the executive committee and the members of TSA. If for any reason the member is not satisfied with the outcome of the discussion, the member should consult the Graduate Student Organization of Binghamton University (GSO). GSO will determine further regulations.


ARTICLE 9: VACANCY

If an officer needs to be replaced, because of vacancy, an election will have to occur to replace the position.
